Celebrating Success!

Happy Friday, everyone! We had a wonderful short week here in Room 12. We officially started the 3rd nine weeks, but spent some time celebrating 2nd quarter achievements like RC Points and the Homework Club. Students spent time reviewing multiplication with 10's and 100's as well as focusing on plural nouns and nonfiction texts. Our MClass window opened and is chugging along nicely- two weeks to go! Students have done a wonderful job of working independently so I can assess each day. Third graders are starting a new social studies unit on map skills and basic geography, which is sure to be lots of fun! Thank you for your continued support and the time you spend at home. None of our progress would be possible without our amazing families! Enjoy the pictures below and I'll see you on Monday!

Short Week #1

Congratulations on a wonderful week, everyone! I told the class this afternoon how very proud of them I am. We had a hard day of Spiral Reviews, writing centers, literacy centers, and more- and we managed to squeeze it all in! We are growing every day and students' stamina is especially evident on days like these. We have practiced and slowly built our skills so that we can work hard for hours without stopping. WOW!

Congratulations to Star Student Camryn for her achievement. We loved her mom's Parent Spotlight visit, and asked lots of interesting questions.

I am very proud of our growth in writing so far this year. Let me take a minute to brag on our 3rd graders!

From poetry and creative writing to informational reports, we are just knocking it out of the park. It makes me smile to see the students take pride in their finished products, and to see the growth over time. I am correcting less and less on their final drafts. Months ago, writing a short paragraph was a labor- let me tell you. Not so anymore! We are truly moving up. :-)

I wish everyone a restful weekend, and look forward to seeing you next week!

Sunshine!

We were so very excited to see the sun and some warmer temperatures today! Indoor recess is fun, but nothing is a substitute for the real thing. :-) Enjoy some photo's from our week of excitement.

Ms. McDaniel visited third graders to kick-off our COGAT Camp. She is preparing our students for the COGAT test in February. We are learning how to read the questions, solve the puzzles, and more. Very informative!

Ms. Henning pushed-in for her ESL classes this week and our assistants were amazing. We journeyed to the computer lab to type up our solar system research projects. Lots of teamwork!

Our "Sippers, Slippers and Parent Tippers" night was HUGE success! We are so grateful to everyone who visited us. The students loved storytime and hot chocolate, and we hope parents found our sessions helpful. Mr. McCreary said we had the best turn-out of any grade level night yet! Yahoo!

After lots of training, we finally started Multiplicaiton Centers today! Students will now devote 20 minutes to "skip counting" skills every day as we prepare for timed multiplication tests. Great practice!

Finally, we loved our Spotlight visit from Jesus' sister. We learned all about Challenger School and the dual-enrollment program she is in. Wonderful peek at a college option. Congratulations, Jesus!

Remember:

  • No School Monday Jan. 19
  • Quarter 2 ends Friday Jan. 23, Missing work due!
  • No School Jan. 26-27 (Work Days)

No Recess? No Problem!

What to do when it's too cold to go outside? Olympic sports, of course! Today we used www.GoNoodle.com to let off a little steam. Create a profile for FREE at home to access videos of Olympic athletes teaching kids hurdle-jumping skills, stretches, and more. This would a perfect activity for anyone with cabin fever. :-)

Remember: We are on a 2 Hour Delay tomorrow morning! Oakwood's doors will open at 10:00 and the tardy bell rings at 10:30. Breakfast will not be served. See you soon!
